Sandrell Rivers TheaterThe Maids (Les Bonnes) is a play by the French playwright Jean Genet, premiered in Paris in 1947.1 Suffering at its premiere the rejection of much of the public and critics, over the years it has been considered one of the key dramatic texts of the 20th century theatre. The Maids is written at the end of the interwar period, after World War II. The work describes the underworld of the maids, of the subproletariat to which redemption would be forbidden, in a certain way an underworld that would have parallels with that of Genet himself. Two maids love and hate their mistress at the same time. They have denounced the lover of this one of hers in anonymous letters. Knowing that they are going to release him due to lack of evidence and that his betrayal will be discovered, they try to assassinate his wife, they fail and they want to kill each other. Finally, one of them commits suicide...
This presentation will be in Spanish.

Wizards and Dragons and Books… Oh My! Sensory Inclusive Matinee Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 2:00 PM EDT
Sandrell Rivers TheaterWizards, and Dragons, and Books... Oh My!" is FTF's newest literacy incentive and bully prevention show. The story stars Jojo, a great kid who loves to read... That is until some kids in the lunchroom start calling him names like "bookworm." To avoid the bullying, Jojo goes to Mendel's Magical Book Shop, hoping that he can sell his books and use the money to buy video games, so he'll fit in with the other kids. Once in the Magic Book Shop though, things take an unexpected turn as the stories in his books magically start to jump to life all around him! Now, all of the pages to Jojo's books are blank and the characters from his books are running wild in real life!
It's up to Jojo to retell the stories to get his old friends to go back on the page. While Jojo works to get his favorite characters from his books to go back on to the pages they belong in, he remembers why he loves to read some much in the first place; It's really FUN! Along the way Jojo starts to realize that all of his books have characters in them who are different, and that being different is what makes them special.
This show artfully weaves its featured books into its thru-line to create a show that both encourages reading and celebrates diversity.
The Moth StorySLAM: Gossip Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 7:00 PM EDT
Sandrell Rivers TheaterThe Moth StorySLAM is a community-focused, open-mic storytelling competition in which anyone can share a five-minute story on the night’s theme. The MOTH hosts live storytelling events in cities around the world, and Fantasy Theatre Factory is thrilled to welcome The Miami MOTH to it's StorySLAM home at the beautiful Sandrell River's Theater!
The THEME for the evening is GOSSIP.
Delicious or malicious, chatty or bratty. Blatantly false or modestly exaggerated. Prepare a five-minute story about a rumor that raised eyebrows, dropped jaws, lowered the boom, rattled your cage or earned you a nasty or fabulous rep. In the office, the aisles of church or temple, in the family or in the streets. Tell us stories of the unfounded, the un-fact checked and the fabulously fabricated. Did you hear?
