HOMEGROWN playwrights BK King, Maleeha Naseer, Nerissa Street, and Brandon Urrutia will present excerpts from their new full-length plays. Guided by educator and playwright Ivan R. Lopez, these plays were developed as part of City Theatre’s HOMEGROWN Playwright Development Program. After the reading, audiences are invited to celebrate and discuss the work with the HOMEGROWN playwrights in the theater lobby.

Japanese Dance Butoh Workshop is an event where you discover new movements and create your own dance while experiencing Japanese Avant-garde dance theater Butoh!

Pinar Sinka, a Butoh artist of the Tokyo Space Dance Company and founder of PIArtButoh, offers participants the opportunity to learn both the practical and theoretical aspects of Japanese Avant-Garde Dance Butoh. In this workshop, participants will gain knowledge about the philosophy, aesthetics, and methodology of Butoh, while experiencing the practices of classical Butoh with the HIJIKATA METHOD and Post-Butoh with SPACE DANCE. Moreover, they will experience the relaxing, warming, and breathing excercises of Butoh, as well as slow somatic techniques that focus on building a relationship between the mind, body, space and increasing body awareness.

Pınar Sinka is a Butohist of the Tokyo Space Dance and founder of the PIArtButoh, will shed light on the essence of Butoh, its philosophy and aesthetic approach, its evolution from classical to contemporary forms and both Japanese and International Butoh topics during this event.

Following the talk, we will watch Butoh master Yoshito Ohno’s A way of Life - Flower & Bird Butoh film, that will both provoke thought and evoke emotions!

Prepare a five-minute story about unexpected brushes with the peculiar, the wild, and the extraordinary. Cryptozoological creatures, familiar faces with unfamiliar behaviors, and peculiar places that have branded themselves on your brain. Whether haunting, heartwarming, or utterly confusing, we want to know about your most uniquely bizarre experiences.

Discover a world of fun and laughter with Little Monster Tales! Delightfully funny stories from children's books about monsters, children, and other squiggly creatures are brought to life on stage through literature, comedy, puppets, and music. This show is perfect for sparking a love of reading and will have children running to the library for more books by the same authors. Don't be afraid, join us for a ghoulishly good time and end the program with a hilarious monster dance. Little Monster Tales is the trick to make reading a treat!

Children 12 and under are encouraged to wear costumes. We will have a trick or treat kiosk with candy available.
