Live Arts Miami, Third Horizon and Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator present: SUMMON

September 23 at 8PM and September 24 at 3PM

Sandrell Rivers Theater 6103 NW 7th Avenue Miami, FL 33127

A Deep Exploration into the Heritage of Jamaica’s Maroon Culture through Film & Performance.

Jamaican-American performance artist Shamar Watt incorporates experimental cinema alongside live performance to investigate the spirit of resistance embodied by the Maroon people of Jamaica and its timely relevance to the intensifying fight for racial justice across the Western hemisphere. Watt proudly traces his heritage back to the Maroons, formerly enslaved Africans who escaped and rebelled against the British colonialists on the island in the 18th century. “Summon” seeks to give form to this spirited lineage through the screening of a new cinematic work led by Jamaican based filmmaker Nile Saulter, a founding member of New Caribbean Cinema, and a live performance featuring jazz percussionist Austin Williamson.

Presented by Live Arts Miami, Third Horizon and Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator.

MDC Students are free with valid MDC ID shown at box office. (Limit 1 per indivdual; limited tickets available per performance).

Due to the immersive nature of this show, the performance will be standing room with limited stools available for those who need to sit. We recommend comfortable shoes with cushioned support. Please note the performance contains moments of flashing lights, lasers, and haze.
