The Sunshine Jazz Organization's 36th Season opens with a very special tribute to the extraordinary founder of The South Florida Jazz Hall of Fame, the late Alice Day! The International Jazz, Gospel Diva, Recording Artist, Songstress, Radio Personality and all around Dynamic Artist was deeply passionate about Jazz History. Having grown up in the heart of Miami during the Hey Day of Jazz, Alice Day was proud and grateful for the amazing amount of Jazz music generated and home grown in FLA over many decades. So in 2009, after returning from several years of Europe and Far East touring including residencies in Switzerland and Thailand, our "Lady Day" returned home to Miami to care for her family. Alice used this opportunity at home to create the means to pay tribute to her many colleagues, mentors and all manner of Jazz heroes. On October 19th, 2009, while celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Day's music career, the 1st South Florida Jazz Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Concert was launched! We will celebrate Alice Day's legacy and we will also present a tribute to dear friend, beautiful artist/educator Brenda Alford who recently passed. The ceremony will feature five additional prolific Jazz musicians who also share their many wisdoms as dedicated Educators. This year's SFJHOF Inductees will include: Brenda Alford, Curtis Lundy, Christopher Dorsey, Jim Gasior, Ric Powell and Bob Grabowski. We'll have a Jazz Ensemble and Gospel tribute, Video presentations and more.

Do please share the news and reserve your seats for The 12th Annual South Florida Jazz Hall of Fame, Friday, October 7th at the Sandrell Rivers Black Box Theater in Liberty City Miami! Free garage parking, cash bar, great sound and vibes! As Ms. Day always exclaimed, "We hope to see your Face in the Place!"

SJO programming is presented with support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.
